Not much has been heard from R&B crooner Sammie who has been working hard in the lab recording his forthcoming studio album. Inspired by Drake's "Girls Love Beyonce," the young heartthrob adds to the list of remixes, offering his opinion on shady females.
In a recent interview with TheGrio the 26 year-old who entered the industry at the tender age of 12, revealed why he's taken extended breaks between projects. "...I never wanted to look back on my childhood just to realize I didn’t have a childhood. That was the reason I “disappeared” the first time."
In his absence he's joined the likes of Ashanti, Dawn Richard, and Bobby V, by starting his own label Star Camp. "Unfortunately I feel like the music industry is on the decline right now. Specifically speaking in the R&B genre. So I signed myself to myself in 2009. Star Camp music is the entity. I’m not saying I’m opposed or wouldn’t go back to a major, but I just want to be in control and have my own sound and develop my own buzz going solo with me and my camp as opposed to signing to a major and them telling me who to be."
The singer/songwriter released his mixtape Insomnia this past October, and expressed his plans to reach new fans with a more adult sound this time. “I’ve learned that when I’m being true to my core, which is R&B, I’m most inspired, creative and vocally ambitious. It’s time for me to shine and I plan to reach new fans and please my dedicated ones..."
