CBS' The Young and the Restless actor Redaric Williams steams up the cover of Rolling Out Magazine |
In an interview with Rolling Out magazine he expressed his love for his hometown. "Detroit is my city," he says with obvious affection. "I have an affinity for Detroit. I always have. Always will. I haven't been back in years but Detroit is definitely my city."
The University of North Texas football, and track star left college early to pursue his passion of theater. Williams whose skin-tone has earned him the nickname of "Red" relocated to New York where he trained as an actor doing theater and independent films. Though he initially opposed the idea, the gorgeous light-eyed gentleman finally started modeling. Soon he became the face of Carling Black Label based in South Africa, before being cast as Tyler Douglas on the CBS soap opera.
Williams appearance on the show have brought him praise as well as critics who downplay him as being a Shemar Moore replacement. "If you compare me to Shemar, I am honored,” he says. “He’s a great guy. He’s doing his thing — stamped, sealed and solidified — and to be able to be mentioned in the same sentence is an honor.”
His character Tyler Douglas is often emotional, a characteristic that Williams cannot identify with. “He’s emotional and Redaric, I’m not emotional. I’m not an emotional person at all — I don’t get rattled very easily.”
And when asked how he feels about being a sex-symbol, he shows how humble he truly is, which makes him even more appealing. “I don’t see myself as that so I don’t think I’d ever be comfortable in something that I don’t see myself as,” he explains, “but I am aware of it and I’m kind of fine with it in the sense that I know that that’s what’s required for what I’m trying to do career-wise.”
