With more people meeting "hookups" and potential mates online than any where else, criminals have begun to see this as a hunting ground for unsuspecting victims.
Marquise J. Utsey may have been boasting about packing 9-inches, but it is now clear that every one of those inches was made out of metal.
A Long Island man will face a judge Thursday after being charged with three robberies of men he met using a gay dating website and offering to have sex with an undercover detective for cash, Nassau County police said.
Utsey, 22, of Roosevelt, will be arraigned Jan. 9 at Nassau First District Court in Hempstead on three counts of first-degree robbery and prostitution.
The three robbery victims all told investigators they met up with Utsey after chatting with a man using the handle “HUGE12” on the website Adam4Adam.
In the first robbery, on Dec. 29, police said Utsey met a 23-year-old man along Valentine Avenue in Roosevelt, but there was no love when Utsey allegedly threatened the victim with a gun, demanding his iPhone and cash. Police said the victim never saw the weapon and no injuries were reported.
Just two days later, Utsey allegedly met up with a 39-year-old victim at Beechwood Avenue and Willet Place in Roosevelt, where the two men began to argue. Cops said Utsey grabbed the man’s iPhone and fled into the backyard of a home on Valentine Street.
The third robbery victim, a 28-year-old man, met Utsey on Jan. 3 along East Roosevelt Street and Park Avenue. Police said Utsey took out a small knife and ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash from the man’s car.
On Wednesday, investigators contacted Utsey using his screename -- “HUGE12” -- and arranged to meet up at the corner of Park Avenue and Valentine Street. Utsey allegedly offered to perform a sex act on an undercover detective in exchange for cash, leading cops to swoop in and arrest him without incident.
Nassau detectives believe Utsey may have other victims who have not yet come forward. Anyone who believes they were victimized is asked to call First Squad detectives at 516-573-6152.
