Sunday night's Grammy awards was a monumental moment for the show, but also a controversial one.
CBS took the opportunity to show their "support" of same-sex marriage, by having 33 straight and gay couples tie the knot at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Under rumored lesbian Queen Latifah's command, they exchanged rings near the end of Sunday night's show-live.
The event took place on a stage set to resemble a giant chapel with stained-glass windows during a performance by hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, in which they sang their hit tune "Same Love," a song embraced by the LGBT community last year.
Madonna who most recently has been in trouble for referring to one of her sons as the N-word, later joined the matrimonial moment in an all-white suit, singing a portion of her hit "Open Your Heart."
While many viewers did just that, and joined in celebration of the same-sex couples, many viewers were not happy.
"Why can't the event just be about the music? So tired of political and social messages being infused into everything," one tweeted. Others referred to it as "anti-Christian" and "propaganda," while another weighed in: "I don't care if they are gay or straight this is wrong. Quit shoving your leftist agenda down my throat. Enough is enough."
Writing for NewsBusters.org, Tim Graham attacked the televised weddings: ‘They can say this is not a stunt, but that's exactly what it is, a piece of musical agitprop to mock the traditional values of conservative American Christians, Jews, Muslims, and others.’
Texas-based radio host Lynn Woolley also criticized the Grammy’s in an online article.
‘As the network, CBS was complicit in this celebration of perversity,' she said.
Even on social media, viewers expressed their distaste of such a showing, that is supposed to be about music:
Heads up: Grammy telecast to feature sodomy-based wedding ceremonies.

@CBS CBS: Shame on you, the Grammy's is supposed to be a family friendly show. It was disgusting, and sick to have gay marriages.

Writers for gossip site Bossip proposed several questions to their often misguided visitors:
The fight for gay rights and equality for the entire LGBT community is a long-running one that has gotten the attention of people of all backgrounds, social status, religious beliefs and walks of life…but should it also be heavily incorporated into our entertainment industry?
Is the entertainment industry as a whole taking things too far by increasingly incorporating LGBT awareness into music, movies and television? Or are they doing exactly what they should be doing?Weighing in on the controversy, rapper and reality television star Saigon touched on the subject with VLAD, as well as his thoughts on homosexuality. “I think homosexuality has more to do with sex than love. I don’t understand pushing the agenda of a sexual thing down people’s throats.”
As homophobic as the Hip-Hop and African-American communities can be, Saigon like so many other people of color may not have any positive gay figures in his life to disprove his stance on homosexuality. Most likely his opinions have been formed by the behavior he's seen on the internet, or the unfortunate display of degradation often displayed during gay pride events.
On the other hand, this is the same man who asked the mother of his child, if he could bring home another woman for her to "play" with. So that alone reinforces where his idea that "homosexuality has to do more with sex than love," mantra.
Although his opinion is totally false, can we blame him for coming to that conclusion, because as gays we often use our sexuality instead of our damn brains.
Look at all of the videos and photos of black gay prides from around the world. There's no display of pride, no education on historical figures in the gay community, nothing. It's just half dressed men, some damn near naked, grinding on one another, performing unimaginable sex acts, meaningless sex-siren contest and a whole bunch of drunken fools fighting.
It's shameful, and does nothing to change the view that people like Saigon have of the gay community.
Sunday's Grammy show was a desperate attempt by CBS and any person of the LGBT community who thinks that the network was just showing their support is a damn fool. Clearly they used us as another way to get people talking and increase their ratings. What the fuck does gay marriage have to do with music? None of the couples released an album. None of them were nominated for an award. So why were they even there?
Not only that, but they decided to include Madonna in on the performance, knowing all of the current controversy surrounding her and the use of the N-word. Again, another way to boost ratings.
The Grammys was not the time nor the place to show such backing. The show is without a doubt the biggest night in MUSIC, therefore the show should have been about that. Leave the political stances for another time.
As Hollie McKay expressed, "producers and the forces behind the Grammys intended to achieve: debate, emotion and even a little anger." Unfortunately they chose the wrong occasion to do so.
