NEW MUSIC: SAMMIE "GIRLS LOVE BEYONCE" COVER

Not much has been heard from R&B crooner Sammie who has been working hard in the lab recording his forthcoming studio album. Inspired by Drake's "Girls Love Beyonce," the young heartthrob adds to the list of remixes, offering his opinion on shady females.

In a recent interview with TheGrio the 26 year-old who entered the industry at the tender age of 12, revealed why he's taken extended breaks between projects. "...I never wanted to look back on my childhood just to realize I didn’t have a childhood. That was the reason I “disappeared” the first time."

In his absence he's joined the likes of Ashanti, Dawn Richard, and Bobby V, by starting his own label Star Camp. "Unfortunately I feel like the music industry is on the decline right now. Specifically speaking in the R&B genre. So I signed myself to myself in 2009. Star Camp music is the entity. I’m not saying I’m opposed or wouldn’t go back to a major, but I just want to be in control and have my own sound and develop my own buzz going solo with me and my camp as opposed to signing to a major and them telling me who to be."

The singer/songwriter released his mixtape Insomnia this past October, and expressed his plans to reach new fans with a more adult sound this time. “I’ve learned that when I’m being true to my core, which is R&B, I’m most inspired, creative and vocally ambitious. It’s time for me to shine and I plan to reach new fans and please my dedicated ones..."

That body still amazes me every time I see it! Continue reading to listen to the smooth melodic sounds of Sammie baby.

ARE YOU RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR FRIEND'S HIV

ARE YOU RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR FRIEND'S HIV

If I knew that some of my closest friends are shooting, snorting, or sleeping their way toward potential HIV infection (or worse, death), would my inaction make me indirectly responsible?

We have all seen the commercials that teach us to stop a drunk person from getting behind the wheel, but that same action should apply to other dangerous actions. We have an obligation to intervene when our friends engage in behaviors that are dangerous and potentially deadly. If we expect to stop new HIV infections or deaths caused by addiction to drugs such as crystal meth and heroin, then we must start having honest, clear conversations with one another.

Recently, Glee fans were shocked to hear of the sudden death of Cory Monteith, the actor who played the lovable character, Finn. Monteith, who made his own personal struggle with addiction public and entered rehab earlier this year, lost his battle with addiction after overdosing on a combination of heroin and alcohol. Late last year, we lost Spencer Cox, a renowned AIDS activist who struggled with addiction to crystal meth. Both of these lives and countless others serve as examples and highlight the need for friends to be patient, understanding, and willing to talk, instead of remaining silent or avoiding confrontation.

In my own life, what started simply as something I would do while out dancing with friends soon became an overpowering addiction that wrecked every aspect of my life, and led to me contracting HIV. I could have easily been another Monteith or Cox. My life while using meth consisted of trolling hookup sites looking for my next trick, all while looking for my next fix. There were never enough tricks and there was definitely never enough meth. Psychologically, I had devolved to a state of amphetamine-psychosis, a consequence of chronic amphetamine use. Symptoms mimic those of schizophrenia and include hallucinations, hearing voices, paranoia, mental confusion, loss of time, emotional flatness, loss of appetite, and sleeplessness just to name a few. Essentially, during the height of my addiction I would have loved for anyone to have told me how much I was hurting myself.

Luckily even without the help of friends and family I was able to address my addiction, although by that time I had lost my new truck, home, and employment. While it was not easy, I found support in other recovering addicts, since they understood exactly what I was going through. Since June 2011, I've traveled across the United States sharing my experiences both as a person living with HIV and as an addict in recovery, and one thing that has stood out to me is that people are still using crystal meth.

Still, I'm amazed to see the headlines for “Party N Play” or “PNP" — code for fellow tweakers — whenever I log onto any hook-up app or website. Bathhouses are filled with guys who are doped up on chemicals purchased from warehouse stores; the actions they engage in while under the influence create a breeding ground for HIV infection. My knowledge of what goes on in bathhouses comes with experience: I am most likely a card-carrying member of your bathhouse. I have no shame in disclosing the fact that I frequent bathhouses around the world, because regardless of your social standing we are all equalized when we are wandering those halls in a towel looking for our next trick. The reality is that the bathhouses are filled with your friends who slip in after a night of partying. You may never know about it because they probably think you'll judge them. And there's a good chance these friends are also not wearing condoms when they have sex.

We need to face it that there are two messages being told. The most prevalent and politically-correct message is that condoms need to be used each and every time that you have sex. The reality is that not everyone wants to use condoms and consequently we are not wearing them. One of reasons that no one freely admits that we are not using condoms is because we do not want to be shamed or shunned. While condoms offer protection against exposure to HIV they are just one of many tools that we have currently. If we are truly committed to reducing shame and having a conversation about reducing new HIV infections, we must end the stigma surrounding unprotected sex.

It is time for us to also have these tough conversations with each other regarding risk-reduction practices and prevention outside of simply putting a condom on. It is time to wake up and recognize that beating people, let alone addicts, over the head with the “condom” message isn’t cutting it. A better conversation to have with these friends who refuse to use condoms might be to ask whether they have heard of PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) or what other risk-reduction practices they can use.

It all boils down to talking to one another. Free of judgement. Free of shame. Are you responsible for your friend’s HIV infection? That is only something that you can answer. Ultimately each person is responsible for their own actions, but as friends and family, don’t we have a higher responsibility to intervene when a person is engaging in behavior that can lead to HIV infection and in some cases death? How many more people need to die before we start talking about the real issues at hand?

NEW MUSIC: SKY HEAVENS "HOLLYWOOD"

Brooklyn native, Sky Heavens may not ring a bell for many but for most music industry insiders, her name is far from unknown. Getting her first big break as a tenacious vocalist with R&B crooner Carl Thomas, she quickly went on to catch the eyes and ears of former Fugees front man, Wyclef Jean.

Sky has worked and toured with some of the biggest names in music such as Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Justin Timberlake, Melanie Fiona, Robin Thicke, Kanye West “Glow in the Dark” tour, Alicia Keys “Freedom Tour” & with Far East Movement as a featured artist which included performing their hit “Like a G6”, which also aired on MTV Push.

It wasn’t long before Sky caught the ear of hip-hop rap icon Eminem, which lead her to being handpicked to join the Recovery band as the lead vocalist. And was soon wowing audiences at NYC’s Yankee Stadium, when she joined Eminem on stage for a rendition of “Stan” on his blockbuster “Home & Home Tour” with Jay Z.

When discussing her sound the Puerto Rican diva explains,“ My music is glamorous, fun, sexy, but can also be introspective and soulful."

Hollywood is about a past relationship gone bad, really bad. When I wrote the song, I was angry about being mistreated by him but then I realized that it wasn’t me, it was him and that’s when I was ok with it,” Sky explains. “Hollywood is like a big middle finger to an ex or to anyone who comes in your life and tries to drain you with negativity. It’s one of those records you put on and sing in the mirror while putting on your eff ‘em girl dress for a night out with the girls.”

Sky is currently putting the finishing touches on her forthcoming EP Luz. Continue reading to listen to her first offering.

TREY TURNER DISCUSSES HIS CAREER, WHAT TYPE OF MEN HE LIKES, AND MORE WITH 'THA XXX LIST,' "I WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE THAT WHITE MEN RULE THIS INDUSTRY"

Trey Turner is a Versatile adult performer of Latin and Filipino descent, who managed to enter the adult industry as a mainstream sensation. In an interview last year with The Man Crush, the New Jersey native discussed many topics, among them--the biggest misconceptions fans/critics have.

"My teeth, yes I know they aren’t the prettiest but I am trying to save up money. I want people to give me a break on it. It’s not easy getting it all fixed." Turner who works as a model, trainer and in retail revealed that porn isn't where he plans to retire. "Everyone has there own reason for doing what they do in this business. I say to each there own. As for me this isn’t my career, I would like to produce a great product and have fun doing it."

Most recently the 25 year-old was interviewed by Tha XXX List, where he discussed what made him enter the adult industry, what type of men he likes, what advice he offers men of color who aspire to be a porn star, and more.

ON WHAT BROUGHT HIM INTO PORN:
I would always watch porn as a little kid and would compare my package down below with the male models package and I always figured….hey, I can do something like that. Then within a few years time I got the itch and I decided to scratch it.

ON WHAT HE'D LIKE TO CHANGE ABOUT THE ADULT INDUSTRY:

I would like to change the fact that white men predominantly rule this industry. This is fine…I understand where it all comes from, however; men of color, such as myself, we have a lot to offer. We have a lot to show and a lot to give,  but you have to give us the opportunity and let us be seen.

WHAT TYPE OF MEN HE LIKES:
I love eyes, and I love to look into light eyes. I have dark eyes and so I see them all the time, give me some one with hazel, green, or blue eyes and I would probably melt at your feet. I also have a big thing for calves I do not like skinny calves. If you are going to spend the time working out your top half you should also spend that time working on the bottom.  I also like men that are understanding, honest, trustworthy, and compassionate. I tend to go for white men, Latin men, and light skinned black men.

ADVICE FOR MEN OF COLOR WHO WANT TO TRANSITION INTO MAINSTREAM:
I would tell them that it is tough out there, but brush it off and just keep pushing. The squeakiest wheel gets the most oil. So create a commotion, put yourself in their faces with new photos, make sure that everybody is seeing it, and take it from there. Just remember that if one company is telling you one thing, that there is a company right behind them that will take you on. There is no stand still in this industry, because if you stand still everything will just pass you by.

WHERE HE SEES HIMSELF IN FIVE YEARS:
In 5 years, I hope to be more successful then what I am currently and  doing something behind the camera. I think that I have some wisdom to help newbies coming in. I am still learning new things and techniques everyday. So I am willing and hoping to help other succeed in this industry.

NEW MUSIC: LADY GAGA "APPLAUSE"

The queen of the Billboard Hot 100 is back with a surprise for her little monsters.

This past weekend was quite the affair. After a snippet of Lady Gaga's new single "Applause" leaked online along with Katy Perry's "Roar," the always outspoken diva took to Twitter to unleash her wrath.
"You just couldn't wait. This is too much for one Saturday.
Don’t focus on ANY blogger criticism. I have been a producer/songwriter/musician for over 10 years. Trust the artist, bloggers are not critics. The fans + music scholars are the best critics because they know the artist intimately. #STOPHarassingTheArtist we are here to entertain you. Let’s make 2013 a year where music/talent/artistry is more important than gossip/fan wars. I respect all fan bases for their passion
I really want the second half of 2013 to mark a change in pop, when music is not mangled by trash talk and tabloids. I support pop music and more artists putting out new music just means more for music lovers to enjoy. Don’t fight with Katy’s fans, or anyone. STOP THE DRAMA. START THE MUSIC. Pop music is fun, and these ‘wars’ are not at all what I’m about. I want people to focus on my new work, not gossip."
The song was orginally slated to be released on August 19 as the lead single from her forthcoming album ARTPOP, scheduled to satisfy the cravings of her monsters on November 11.

"Put your hands up, make 'em touch!" Gaga declares in dramatic fashion on the uptempo new single, which is built around pulsating synthesizers and morphs into a thrilling dance cut when it circles back to its chorus. The single will be performed live for the first time at the MTV Video Music Awards, airing live from Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Aug. 25

"DUE TO HACKERS AN ABUNDANCE OF LOW/HIGH QUALITY LEAKS...WE ISSUE THIS POP MUSIC EMERGENCY...MONSTERS SPREAD THE WORD," Gaga posted via her Twitter. Fans of the singer launched an anti-piracy campaign by reporting illegal download links to Universal.

I really want to refer to this track as Booty Talk, but I will refrain.

Rising singer/songwriter/producer D.Wyte is here to put romance and maturity back into music with the release of his sultry lead single “Body Talk.”

A slow grinding groove accented by D.Wyte pouring his heart out over a thumping 808 drum track, “Body Talk” adequately sets the mood for any romantic encounter.

“Simply put, it’s where desire meets passion,” explains D.Wyte.

The steamy lead single is just a taste of what D.Wyte has to offer from his forthcoming Elitascend-released EP Stages of a Man.

DATING AN HIV-POSITIVE MAN MIGHT BE SAFER THAN DATING SOMEONE NEGATIVE

$
0
0
Love can seem like an endless merry-go-round, and after the first few rounds of failed relationships, the music begins to drive you insane, and you begin to wonder why none of the toads you've kissed have turned into your prince charming. Breakups are hard to go through, and while major advancements have been made in science, there is no remedy besides the temporary and detrimental relief of alcohol and drugs for a broken heart, besides time itself. Still, the romantic in all of us continues to travel the Earth looking for the one who will love us for who we are, including the reasons our exes didn't.

As we mature, not get older as age does not equate maturity, the image of the man we see standing beside us for eternity begins to take shape. Through experience we know what we want in a man and what we don't want, and refuse to entertain those men who are only good for the night, looking for the one whose good for our lives. With every potential love interest comes a series of risks, ones that may not be so evident. When you meet someone new and a bond between the two of you begins to form, the questions seem to flood your mind and unfortunately there is no arc to take refuge in. What if his family is not accepting of homosexuality? What if he's not out of the closet? What if his friends don’t like me? What if he rejects me for my HIV-positive status?

Moment of truth. Being someone who has been positive since the age of 19, that was one of the first questions I asked myself. Who's going to love me now? Who's going to accept me for the new definition of 'who I am?' Will the man I date understand everything that I go through mentally and physically as an HIV-positive man? To my surprise throughout the years I have never been turned down for being positive, and by being so forthcoming about my status, many of the men whom I've dated let their guard down and shared their pos-status with me as well--including a lot of you readers.

Learning which risks are unavoidable and which are optional is something crucial for us to do when swimming in the dating pool. Protection from possible disease, including HIV, should be on the mind of every single gay man. Just because you don't have it, know someone who is positive, or the fact that you aren't dating someone who is, doesn't mean that you should be completely oblivious to the chronic illness. It is because of the lack of education that the risk of dating someone who is HIV-positive is severely misunderstood.

The real risk comes into play when dating a man who doesn’t know his status.

Before becoming as educated about the virus as I am today, I thought a lot like the majority, that dating an HIV-positive man increases your risk of infection. In reality it does the opposite. If your prospective mate has the courage to disclose his positive status before the first round of cocktails, you can be certain that he has, and will take the necessary steps to protect your negative status.

There are many misconceptions about HIV-positive men. That they contracted the virus by being whores, or or that someone who is positive will begin acting in an unsafe and irresponsible manner because they feel the damage is done, and he no longer has to worry about protecting himself. False. People who contract HIV do so by doing something we all do every day of our lives, and that is trust someone. There are plenty of men who have contracted it from partners whom they've been with for years, whether it be because their partners were unfaithful or were not in the know about their status.

The positive man must protect himself even more, to protect his health from pesky ancillary viruses, and even from re-infecting himself with a different strain of the virus. For him, that means avoiding those question marks at all costs. An HIV-positive man who is in treatment, takes care of his health, and is determined by his physician to have an undetectable viral load has reduced your risk of acquiring the virus to the smallest statistic possible. Whether you are negative or positive, condom use should be non-negotiable in any dating scenario.

So who is more of a gamble? The HIV-positive male? Or....the one that you are unsure of, or one who is unsure of himself?

So often you will hear a gay man prematurely divulge his negative HIV status as soon as one of his friends brings up the topic. Be wary—he may just be the guy who convinces himself he is negative just because he doesn’t know whether he is positive. Truth is, if he has had even one sexual encounter since his last test, he is a question mark.

In the perfect world everyone would be upfront about their status, but this world is imperfect, which in some cases is what makes it so great; not when it comes to HIV. Those who are negative often believe that are smarter or better protected than those who bear the plus sign. Afterall you've had sex with the entire east coast and have yet to catch anything that a few antibiotics won't kill. But again majority of those who contract the virus, do so in committed relationships, and as we all know the persuasion of romance, compounded by several months of exclusivity, and pure lust that captivates us in the moment can sometimes get the best of us, causing us to act irresponsibly. Just like a woman getting pregnant, it only takes one time.

I never thought it would happen to me, and in that moment I reassured myself, 'It's only one time, there's no way my second sexual partner would be positive and in-turn infect me.' It was a gamble that I lost, but since then my life has been far from over. Now I approach every situation with my truth, because the gamble of transmitting the virus to someone else would be worse than the feeling I had when I found out I was positive.

Dating is exciting, adventurous, a part of the unknown, and hidden within those words is "risk." However if you are positive, honest with yourself, honest with whom you're dating, follow your therapy regimen, and share everything regarding your health with your partner, there is nothing to worry about. If you are negative, as long as you always use protection, educate yourself on the virus, and are open to discussing and supporting your HIV-positive partner, there is nothing to worry about--besides a broken heart. Something positives and negatives are all susceptible to.

Now as for his judgmental family and wild friends...I can't help you with.
